1. Policy Statement

LinguaPlay Advanced Limited is an educational tutoring business providing language and academic tuition to learners of all ages. We operate primarily from rented, per-session premises across multiple locations, and maintain one permanent office that serves as a teaching space, meeting room, working office, and resource library. We recognise that all organisations, regardless of size, have a responsibility to reduce their impact on the environment. We are committed to operating in a way that minimises waste, reduces energy and resource consumption, and continually improves our environmental performance. This policy sets out our commitments, the practical steps we take to fulfil them, and the responsibilities of everyone involved in our business.

2. Scope

This policy applies to:

  • All management, employees, self-employed tutors, and contractors working for or on behalf of LinguaPlay Advanced Limited
  • All activities carried out at our permanent office
  • Our use of rented teaching and meeting premises at third-party locations
  • Our procurement of materials, equipment, and services
  • Our digital and administrative operations

3. Our Environmental Commitments

3.1 Energy and Emissions

  • We will keep our energy use at the permanent office as low as reasonably practicable, switching off lighting, heating, and equipment when not in use.
  • We will favour electronic communication, digital resources, and remote meetings over travel wherever this does not compromise the quality of our teaching or client relationships.
  • Where travel is necessary, we will encourage staff and tutors to use public transport, cycling, or car-sharing in preference to single-occupancy vehicle journeys.
  • When renewing office equipment, we will consider energy efficiency ratings as part of our purchasing criteria.

3.2 Paper and Printing

  • We will operate as a digital-first organisation, using electronic documents, cloud storage, and digital communication wherever practical.
  • Where printing is necessary, we will default to double-sided, black-and-white printing on recycled or sustainably sourced paper.
  • We will review printing requirements regularly and seek to reduce overall paper consumption year on year.
  • Teaching materials will be provided digitally to learners wherever possible; printed materials will be produced in appropriate quantities to minimise waste.
  • We will maximise the use of physical teaching materials from our central resource library, operating a return-and-reuse system to minimise waste and reduce the procurement of new items.

3.3 Waste Reduction and Recycling

  • We will separate waste at our permanent office in accordance with local authority recycling provision, ensuring paper, card, glass, plastics, and electronics are disposed of through the correct channels.
  • We will avoid single-use plastics in the office and, where practicable, at rented premises.
  • Redundant IT equipment will be disposed of responsibly, either donated for reuse or directed to licensed WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) recycling.
  • Stationery, teaching resources, and office supplies will be purchased in quantities that match genuine need to reduce excess stock and waste.

3.4 Procurement and Supply Chain

  • We will, where practical and cost-effective, source office supplies, stationery, and teaching materials from suppliers who demonstrate environmental responsibility.
  • We will prefer products with recognised environmental certifications (e.g. FSC paper, recycled content products) when purchasing.
  • We will ask our principal suppliers about their environmental practices and take this into account when reviewing supplier relationships.

3.5 Rented and Third-Party Premises

  • When using rented premises, we will respect and follow the environmental policies and waste management practices of the venue operator.
  • We will encourage venue operators we work with to provide recycling facilities and energy-efficient environments.
  • We will not leave litter, waste materials, or excessive resource consumption at third-party locations.

3.6 Digital Operations

  • We will maintain and manage our data and documentation digitally, minimising physical storage and the associated resource demands.
  • We will periodically review our digital systems and cloud services to ensure we are using efficient platforms that align with our values.
  • We will manage email and file storage responsibly, archiving or deleting redundant data to reduce unnecessary server load.

4. Compliance

LinguaPlay Advanced Limited will comply with all applicable environmental legislation, regulations, and codes of practice relevant to our activities in England, including but not limited to:

  • The Environmental Protection Act 1990
  • The Climate Change Act 2008 and associated targets
  • The Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011
  • The WEEE Regulations 2013
  • Any local authority requirements relating to waste and recycling at our premises
